KC Indie band Names

So on Dec 23rd into Dec 24th, 2010, I made a quick weather report of "Snowing in Westport" with @jfishsports retweeted with the header of #kcindiebandnames. All of a sudden the hash tag took off and below is the end result..aka one of the most epic "conversations" in the history of twitter (at least for JFish, myself and @SOTWpodcast cause we have no life) Many got involved. Some were amazing like "Matt Cassels Appendix Ft. D-Bowe Drops" by @heycameraman or Hereford House Dynamite by @bradkporter (Personal fav since I worked for HH). These may not be as funny if you don't live in or no KC businesses/areas etc but for those of us in Kansas City it was pretty epic and carried on way into the morning (Total of 12 hrs!) including becoming a trending topic before midnight.
I highly recommend following all of the people below. Most will follow back. All are obviously clever. A ton of people chipped in on this and we unintentionally turned it into a trending topic, dang it was fun while we did. For some reason it wouldn't include mine in the search so I have added them separately

Clark Hunt: Soccer is my 1^st love.

Hey Chiefs fans how do you feel about being second fiddle to Soccer? Well you are! Clark Hunt was quoted as saying He’s so excited about Dallas FC making the MLS Championship because soccer has always been his first love. Hunt, a large investor in the MLS and owner of not only the FC Dallas squad but also the Columbus Crew is notorious for not spending much money on the Chiefs and now maybe we know why.  I don’t know about the rest of you but this angers me. The Chiefs could have went out and spent money this year and been the hands down favorite to win the divison and maybe Hunt would have if the Chiefs played futbol instead of football.

Kansas City Still on Pace for Division Title!

Chiefs’ fans calm down! This is still your division to lose. Now I know I have angered every Raiders fan out there because they lead the division based on tie breakers. What Raider fans are forgetting is you have one of the hardest schedules in football coming up. The Raiders play Pitt and San Diego both on the road and hard to win home games against Miami and Indy before ending the season IN Kansas City for what could be the AFC West Championship game. The Raiders combined opponent records are 34-29 whereas KC is just the opposite with an opponent record of 29-34. More importantly the raiders are on the road for 5 and home for 3 whereas KC again home for 5 where they are perfect and have 3 on the road.

In my original article I had picked Oakland at 4-5 right now but with the surprise thrashing of the hapless Broncos, they leave the bye 5-4. I had picked Oakland to win the division in the preseason because Jason Campbell made that team legit. Through the first 6 games, Campbell had proved me wrong but in the last two games this Raiders team looks like the one I picked to win it with a 9-7 record.  I am upgrading the Raiders from my 7-9 projection in October to 8-8 adding a win over Jacksonville.  Their schedule is too much to overcome.

Chargers fans, I haven’t forgotten you. Like him or hate him Philip Rivers finds a way to win in spite of the worst coach and GM in football and now he gets Vincent Jackson back. One thing Raider and Chief fans can agree on if they need to root for the Donkey’s this week to put some separation between SD and the front runners.  The Chargers are a game better than I predicted them back in October and still very much in the division race. Going 4-1 over their next 5 but stumbles to end the year losing the two road games and ending 8-8 tied for 2^nd with the Raiders.

Denver has done their normal start strong and disappear but this year didn’t even start as strong as usual. Aside from Denver’s rout of KC last week this team has been an embarrassing disappointment. I had them to begin the year at 5-11 but upgraded them to 9-7 after their offense looking so good, however I see them now sliding back to 5-11 and not being in the conversation.

So Chiefs fans here we are back to where we started. This team needs road wins over St Louis and Seattle. Both teams like KC with surprising seasons battling for a division title with unlikely foes.  If the Chiefs slip this week again Arizona then you can pack it in but I would not be surprised at all to see this team go 5-3 to finish the year as I predicted last month and a division winning 10-6 record.  If they lose at either Seattle or St. Louis they will have to find harder wins against San Diego on the road or Tennessee at home. If they lose to both Seattle and St Louis they will all but hand the division to San Diego or Oakland. It’s not out of the realm of possibility of the Chargers only losing one more game and finishing 10-6 as well but KC could spoil their party and a huge win over Oakland at a very loud Arrowhead to finish the year and put the Chiefs in the playoffs.

Don’t give up KC! You have an easy enough schedule and hold destiny in your hands. Get out there and root on your team and let’s bring playoff football back to KC!

The Chiefs will win the west!

While we are all getting excited for this Chiefs team the last two weeks really put a damper on the 3-0 start. Why are you upset?!? This team wasn’t supposed to be good. They have pushed two teams that were thought to be potential AFC West teams to the edge but just weren’t able to close the deal. While this team won’t go far in the playoffs they will get there. It’s easy to see by just looking at the schedule of the teams chasing. Let’s take a look:

Denver, currently 2-4, 1.5 games back: Denver did not get off to the hot start they have had the last 2 years. Sitting at a lowly 2-4 but good enough for a 3 way tie for 2^nd in the pathetic west, Denver has some of their toughest games ahead. The Donkey’s will win the next two weeks against the Raiders at home and the apparently awful 49ers on the road to go into the bye at .500. That leads to one of the biggest remaining games for the Chiefs in week 10.

The Chiefs have always struggled at Invesco Field or Mile High. Last year they found a way but it is a lot to ask of Matt Cassel to go in and beat an okay Denver defense through the air. The running game of Jamal Charles and Thomas Jones will give the Broncos all they can handle but the Kyle Orton lead offense at home will just be too much. This will be a huge loss for the Chiefs tying them with the Broncos for the division lead at 5-4

The Broncos will go on to lose at San Diego and win at St Louis before coming to KC and losing at Arrowhead just like usual, once again for the division lead. Now 6-6 and trailing the 7-5 KC Chiefs, Denver will go to Arizona and beat the inept Cardinals but will lose in Oakland in the rivalry game.  Denver will exploit the worst pass defense in football defeating Houston in Denver and ending the year with a win over disappointing San Diego. Denver ends the year at a surprisingly respectful 9-7 but one game behind the 10-6 Chiefs. I had Denver with a 5-11 record in the preseason but with Kyle Orton emerging as a Top 10 QB and teams like Arizona and San Francisco being so bad, Denver finds a few extra wins. Denver is really the only team that can push the Chiefs in the west but we will take a closer look at the remaining games and final records of the Raiders and Chargers.

San Diego was the popular pick to win the west but I said from day one that AJ Smith is an idiot who doesn’t know how to be a GM and Norvell is the 2^nd worst coach in football close behind Wade Phillips in Dallas. This team makes me more right every week!

Currently 2-4 and in the three way tie for 2^nd, San Diego has a very difficult schedule coming up. New England and Tennessee come to town the next two weeks and I don’t think SD is good enough to beat either one.  They then have to go to Houston. While Phillip Rivers is a much better QB than Cassel I think Houston’s defense is going to be ready and is going to continue San Diego’s losing streak to five. This team will be happy to get to the bye. Denver will then come to town on Monday night and the Home Field advantage will be enough to finally break the slide only to go to Indy the next week and get rocked by Peyton and the boys.  Now absolutely decimated at 4-8, they will pick up home wins over division rivals Oakland and KC along with san Fran. This will bring them to 6-8 and that will be the closest to the top they will be as they finish on the road with two losses and a 6-10 record. I honestly had them for 4 wins beginning the year but I will give them the benefit of the doubt on a couple games finishing them slightly better but well off the pace. This should be the end of Norvell in San Diego

Oakland who I actually picked to win the division with an 8-8 or 9-7 record has done everything they could to prove me wrong. I though Jason Campbell was the missing piece but Al Davis and Tom Cable screwed that up too.  Now at 2-4, 1 game off the pace they will lose next week to Denver at Invesco before rebounding for home wins over Seattle and KC sending them to the bye at 4-5 still a game back of KC and Denver.  They will then go get roughed up by the Steelers, find a way to beat Miami at home and then go on the road to lose at San Diego and Jacksonville. Now at 5-7 they return home beat rival Denver but lose to Indy and finish the year with a loss at KC to end the season a disappointing 7-9 but keeps them out of the cellar one game better than San Diego.

The Chiefs have surprised most and as shown above will take their bumps within the division but with home wins coming up over Jacksonville, Buffalo, Arizona in the next 4 weeks and finishing the season with a big win over Tennessee and Oakland this team will make the playoffs at 10-6 but may not be good enough for the 1^st round bye. That would mean a playoff birth for the 1^st time since 2006 and the 1st home playoff game since 2003. Time will tell if the Chiefs can get their first playoff win since 1993 and I wouldn’t count on it with no big game QB but at least Arrowhead will likely see a home playoff game this year.

Superfan Day at the K

So apparently the Royals are having a Super fan Day. My friend Chris Coats, (who you may know as Super Fan Chris) found this on the Royals website and posted it to my facebook.

Thats where the Royals portion ended. Chris added:
"They have a photo of what appears to be a superfan...its not you or me. then they want to have a costume contest to decide 2010's superfan of the year. Something about this strikes me as odd. If this is the criteria, I think they should probably pick you"

The Royals haven't came to us and asked us to be involved but Don who is some sort of supervisor in promotions says (Through an usher who wants us more involved in it) we will be.

So heres what I need from you guys. I have never asked the Royals for anything but I want to be 1st or 2nd (to Chris) in 2010 Superfan of the year. So I need you all to buy tickets to the 18th. Come hang out with me before the game. Make Tshirts/Signs/whatever fancy you might have for either Chris or I. Build it up I want the Royals to know you guys appreciate what we do.  KC HAS THE BEST FANS IN AMERICA. I lived in Denver for 7 years and NEVER ONCE did I hear the kind of eruption in a bar during a losing season that I heard the other night when Gordon won the game on a walk off. You guys rock and most of you appreciate what we do and thats why we do it. Help us out the 18th and support your superfans. I am trying to find a Tshirt maker to Sponsor either just me or both Chris and I and make cheap (10 bucks or less) Tshirts that say "I am a Superfan of Royal Man" or "I am a Superfan of KCSuperf@n Chris" If anyone knows anyone who would do this I would put a patch with their logo on it on my cape  I would like to get these made for anyone who would be willing to wear one.
